Frequently Asked QuestionsCan I still browse jobs by Career Category?
Yes, you can still browse jobs by Career Category. You can also browse jobs by the new Career Clusters. The Career Categories were compiled by the AIM Institute from our many years of experience connecting employers with job seekers. The Career Clusters were developed by the States' Career Clusters Initiative (SCCI) under the National Career Technical Education Foundation (NCTEF) to provide a tool for the seamless transition from education to career in this era of changing workplace demands.
Can I still share a Job Opening with a friend?
Yes, you can still share a Job Opening. In fact, we encourage you to do it. On the right side of the job position page you will notice three tabs: Map, Careers, Share. Clicking the Share tab presents you with a Share button. Hovering over this button gives you a number of sharing options including: email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Simply select the sharing method that easiest for you and your friend.
Does Careerlink sell my personal information?
No. Careerlink takes your privacy seriously. We may use your profile data to improve our product, but we will not furnish your information to outside agencies or vendors.
How do I limit my job search to only the city I've entered?
The default search Radius on the Search Jobs page is 40 miles. This could potentially include a lot of places in your matches that you might not be interested in. To limit the search to only the Location you have specified, select '0' from the Radius dropdown.
What is the AIM Service Region?
Careerlink is a nationwide service. Consequently, the geographic distribution of job postings is widespread. The "AIM Service Region" on the Search Jobs page is provided as a default to keep the volume of job posting matches manageable. This is only intended as a convenience. You may still enter any city or zip code you wish in the Location field to find a job in that part of the country.
What is the difference between Career Clusters and Career Categories?
While the same jobs can be found by perusing either hierarchy, you initially have 46 Career Categories to choose from as opposed to 16 Career Clusters. Experienced job seekers tend to prefer searching by Career Category since they can quickly find their specific field of interest. The Career Clusters, on the other hand, were developed for students entering the workforce who are typically less specialized in their career interests.
What kind of keywords can I enter for my job search?
Typically, users will enter their career field (e.g., "Nurse", "Teacher", etc.). An acronym like "CPA" is acceptable, too. Some users prefer to search for a particular skill. For instance, if you are a computer programmer, then you might enter "Java" or "Perl" to find potential jobs. You may also enter more than one keyword, and the search engine is sophisticated enough to recognize boolean conditions (i.e., "and", "or", etc.). If the list of jobs returned is overwhelming, a Refinements section is provided to help you to quickly whittle down your choices.
When I'm managing my saved job searches, what's the difference between EXPIRE and DELETE?
Clicking the EXPIRE button will stop email notification for your saved job search. You will no longer be emailed new job postings that meet your search criteria. Your saved search remains in the system, and it will appear in the "Load an existing search..." dropdown on the Search Jobs page. The DELETE button will erase your saved search.
